Playwright: Tim Firth Directed by Michael Lacy Date: September 28 – October 15 Description: When Annie's husband John dies of leukemia, she and best friend Chris resolve to raise money for a new settee in the local hospital waiting room. They manage to persuade four fellow WI members to pose nude with them for an "alternative" calendar, with a little help from hospital porter and amateur photographer Lawrence. The news of the women's charitable venture spreads like wildfire, and hordes of press soon descend on the small village of Knapeley in the Yorkshire Dales. The calendar is a success, but Chris and Annie's friendship is put to the test under the strain of their new-found fame. Based on the true story of eleven WI members who posed nude for a calendar to raise money for the Leukemia Research Fund, Calendar Girls opened at the Chichester Festival Theater and has since become the fastest selling play in British theater history.

Bluegrass music, cloggers plus many other forms of entertainment add to this event which features a variety of artists and craftsmen who sell handmade goods. Sorghum is the 3rd most popular cereal grain in the US, and a staple of early Georgia farmers going back to the early 1800's. A very festive time and a great event for the entire family.

7th Annual Blue Ridge Mountains Marching Festival on Saturday, October the 14th beginning at 1 p.m. and continuing throughout the afternoon and evening until 9:30 p.m. More than 2,000 marching band members from nearly 24 area high school bands are expected to participate. Bands will range in size from 40 members to more than 150 members. Come for the day spend some time downtown at one of our art festivals.

The Georgia Apple Festival brings two exciting weekends to Ellijay, Georgia every year with hundreds of vendors offering food, art, crafts, and more, as well visitors from all over. The Ellijay Lions Club, the Gilmer County Chamber of Commerce, the cities of Ellijay and East Ellijay, and Gilmer County invite everyone to come and enjoy the 46th year of the Georgia Apple Festival. There are over 300 vendors with handmade, hand-crafted items, as well as many on-site demonstrations of how selected types of crafts are made. This year promises many new crafts as well as favorites from past festivals. There is a parade and antique car show each year. The antique car show is held at the Civic Center on October 14th. The parade is on October 21st and begins at 10 AM in historic downtown Ellijay.

The Tri-State Model Railroaders offer a few Open House events at the Mineral Bluff Depot from 10:00 am until 2:00 throughout the year. The model railroad layout depicting Copper Basin Railroading in the early 1950’s is developing nicely and the Tri-State Model Railroaders invite you to come enjoy the depiction, learn how railroads played such an important role in the development of the Tri-State area and to learn the unique history of the restored brick depot. This building was constructed over 100 years ago with locally made brick and is the oldest public building remaining in Fannin County. In addition to the opportunity to view and inspect this building close up, you will also be able to observe the progress being made by Tri-State Model Railroaders on their large “HO” Scale model railroad representing the Louisville & Nashville Railroad’s “Hook and Eye” Old Line running from Marietta, Ga through Ellijay, Blue Ridge and McCaysville/Copperhill to Etowah, TN and the branch line to Murphy, NC. The GREAT TREE is back! It is 27 foot tall, a sight that will WOW children and adults alike. Friday is BLUE Friday, when all merchants will be offering discounts and the downtown area will be filled with live entertainment throughout the day. A full day of fun begins on Saturday when Santa and Mrs. Claus arrive at approximately 9:30 a.m. Santa and Mrs. Claus will then be in the holiday parade immediately following their arrival. After the parade stop by the park and have your picture taken with Santa and Mrs. Claus. Mr. & Mrs. Clause will be in the gazebo and looking forward to talking to all the children. Saturday December 16th, 7:30 pm Gretchen Peters is back!! Gretchen Peters is a Grammy nominated singer-songwriter from Nashville. Both her poetic language and the spare, evocative sounds she created in the studio to support her organic story-telling is brought to the live stage. Peters’ own voice and guitar playing have been at the core of her music since she started performing in the Boulder, Colorado folk circuit as a teenager. Inspired by Paul Simon, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell and a new generation of songwriters rising out of Nashville that included Steve Earle, Nanci Griffith and Rodney Crowell, Peters relocated to Music City in the late 1980s.
